England controlled this match at will - and still came away empty-handed. 79 per cent possession, 19 shots, nine corner kicks: the Three Lions applied relentless pressure on Ghana's defence for 90 minutes without finding the decisive goal.
The first half was largely one-sided but lacked clear-cut chances. Ghana sat deep and looked to counter-attack - most dangerously in the 50th minute, when a low cross from Senaya Williams narrowly missed the far post. At the other end, England still lacked precision in the final third.
After the break, England stepped up the pressure. Ghana's goalkeeper Asare kept his side in the game with three saves, including a sharp reflex stop in the 86th minute to deny Saka's long-range effort. England spurned their biggest chance of the night in the 87th minute: O'Reilly, who had only just come on as a substitute, headed a cross onto the bar - and Harry Kane fired the rebound over from close range. Kane, who is level with Gary Lineker as England's all-time World Cup top scorer, went without a goal.
Declan Rice was England's standout performer across the full 90 minutes: 45 passes, six shot-creating actions, three shots of his own - and a yellow card just before half-time. For Ghana, Iñaki Williams also received a yellow card in the 60th minute before being substituted off in the 66th.
Both sides had won their opening fixtures - England 4-2 against Croatia, Ghana 1-0 against Panama. With four points each after two matchdays, both teams are well placed heading into their final group game.
