It was a brief outing at the Hockenheimring for Christian Klien, as technical issues forced the former Formula 1 driver to retire early. In the Velom Sportscar Supercup powered by Interwetten SCC, the Austrian driver, competing for Pedrazza Racing Team, had to retire after just the opening lap of the first race, with victory on the traditional circuit going to Marco Fink. The Kempten native had previously secured pole position in the Nova Proto/NP01 SE92 during qualifying.
Klien was unable to start the second race of the series due to a gearbox failure of hos WPR 66; the event took place as part of the “ADAC Hockenheim Historic – Jim Clark Revival”. Fink finished ahead of Sven Barth (Ginetta G61-LT-P3) and Michael Herich (Duqueine), as he had the day before. “The racing gods unfortunately were not on our side this weekend,” Klien wrote on Instagram: “Many thanks to the team for the hard work!”
