With the active support of former Formula 1 driver Christian Klien and the decisive backing of Interwetten, Matthias Lauda—the son of legendary three-time Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda—will join the Pedrazza Racing Cars team. At the end of August 2026, he will compete as a guest driver in the Interwetten SCC at the Red Bull Ring Classics. This creates a formidable duo for Pedrazza Racing Cars.
The signing of Matthias Lauda sends a strong signal for the traditional racing series and will generate an exceptionally high level of attention for the championship field.
The project came about through Christian Klien, who has worked alongside Lauda as a Formula 1 expert on Servus TV for many years. During a dinner in Spielberg, Klien and a subsequent phone call with Interwetten helped make the project a reality. Thanks to Interwetten, the deal was ultimately completed.
Although Matthias Lauda has not competed in a race since 2020, he brings extensive prototype experience from his years in the DTM and the FIA World Endurance Championship. An evenly matched duel in Spielberg awaits.
Lauda will now make his debut in a sports prototype built by Pedrazza Racing Cars. He will drive a PRC WPR66 powered by a 3.5-litre Ford Cosworth engine. Christian Klien will be competing in an identical sister car, ensuring equal conditions at Pedrazza Racing Cars for this duel between the two TV colleagues.
“A true Servus TV expert duel in Spielberg! On paper, the circuit looks relatively simple, but it isn’t. As my home track, it is something very special to me,” says Christian Klien, looking forward to the showdown.
For motorsport fans, the race weekend on 29 and 30 August 2026 at the Grand Prix circuit in Spielberg will be an absolute highlight. In addition to the racing action of the Interwetten SCC, prominent guests such as Karl Wendlinger and Ring ambassador Helmut Marko will provide additional glamour in the paddock.
