That would settle one of the most important issues in Bayern’s medium-term planning. Kane has repeatedly made it clear over the past few months that he feels very comfortable in Munich, despite recurring speculation about a possible return to the Premier League.
Breakthrough in contract talks
Negotiations between Bayern and Kane have been ongoing for some time. Even before the World Cup, it was clear that the German record champions wanted to keep their centre-forward beyond 2027. Concrete talks were put on hold during the tournament before both sides intensified discussions afterwards.
The decisive breakthrough now appears to have been made. According to current reports, the new contract is expected to run until 2029. The signature is still missing, but Bayern are reportedly highly confident that the deal will be completed.
Kane himself recently suggested that an agreement was getting closer. “We’re in good talks and we’re pretty close,” the England captain said. While a few details still needed to be sorted out, he added that he did not expect it to be “too long” before an announcement.
His general stance is clear: “I feel very comfortable in the team, with the coach and in the environment.” Kane had already stressed on several occasions that he currently sees no reason to consider a move elsewhere.
Bayern set to make an exception for Kane
The length of the proposed contract is particularly striking. Kane is now 33 and would be 36 by the time a new deal expires. In the past, Bayern have often taken a more cautious approach with older key players and in some cases offered only one-year extensions.
With Kane, however, the club appears willing to make a deliberate exception.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently explained that he had traditionally believed players over 30 should only be offered one-year deals. “But there are exceptions when you’re convinced by a player. And we are convinced by Harry.”
Kane’s physical condition is also viewed as a major factor by Bayern’s supervisory board. The Englishman has missed very few games through injury since joining the club and continues to perform at an exceptionally consistent level.
Since moving from Tottenham in the summer of 2023, Kane has scored 152 goals in 154 competitive appearances for Bayern and provided a further 34 assists. He has finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in all three of his seasons so far.
Release clause and Tottenham matching right discussed
Not every aspect of the new contract appears to be fully settled yet. According to international reports, Kane is once again keen to include a release clause that would, in principle, leave the door open for a future return to the Premier League.
There has also been speculation about a so-called matching right for Tottenham. If Bayern were to accept an offer for Kane in the future, his former club could reportedly match those terms. It remains unconfirmed whether either of these clauses will actually be included in the final agreement.
Kane has also been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia over the past few months. However, there has been little indication that he was seriously considering a move. Instead, almost everything recently has pointed towards him staying in Munich.
Bayern set to secure their most important goalscorer
For Bayern, extending Kane’s contract would be far more than a formality. He remains the focal point of their attack and, despite his age, one of the most productive and efficient strikers in Europe.
At the same time, a deal through to 2029 would give the club valuable planning security in a position where an adequate replacement would be extremely difficult – and above all expensive – to find.
The official announcement is still pending, but after months of talks, there appears to be very little standing in the way of the successful partnership continuing. Kane has so far scored 152 goals in 154 competitive appearances for Bayern and provided 35 assists.
