Tadej Pogačar won the 14th stage of the Tour de France convincingly in a solo effort, extending his overall lead in the yellow jersey to 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
The four-time overall winner from Slovenia triumphed on the 155.3 km course from Mulhouse to Le Markstein – a place where he had already won at the 2023 Tour. This was Pogačar’s fourth stage victory at the 113th Tour de France and the 25th of his entire career.
Isaac Del Toro (UAE Emirates-XRG) completed a one-two for his team in second place, while Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM) finished third.
The decisive moment came on the Col du Haag, where Pogačar attacked mercilessly 1.5 km before the summit, leaving all rivals behind. Tokyo Olympic champion Richard Carapaz had previously tried, as the last breakaway rider, to defend the stage win – in vain.
Earlier in the race, Briton Thomas Pidcock surprisingly joined the lead group. Pidcock had climbed to fourth place overall as a breakaway rider on Friday.
Pogačar sent teammate Nils Politt in pursuit, and Pidcock was caught and subsequently dropped 60 km from the finish. Changeable weather with heavy showers increased the risk on the descents, but no major crashes occurred.
On Sunday, the 15th stage from Champagnole to the Plateau de Solá follows as a day for the climbers: nearly 4,000 meters of elevation gain lie on the 183.9 km leg. The final climb is 11.3 kilometers long and averages a nine percent gradient.
