MotoGP rider Pedro Acosta wasted no time in scoring points at the start of the second half of the season, returning from a four-week summer break. The KTM factory rider secured sixth place in the sprint at Silverstone, picking up four points in the process. The 22-year-old currently sits seventh in the world championship standings. Teammate Brad Binder (South Africa) meanwhile came away empty-handed in eleventh place.
Jorge Martín was in a class of his own. The Spaniard reinforced his championship ambitions with an impressive wire-to-wire victory on the circuit where he had previously set pole position with a lap record. Behind him, his Aprilia teammates Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi locked out the remaining podium positions. Ogura finished 1.5 seconds behind Martín. World champion Marc Márquez (Ducati) had a day to forget: the Spaniard crossed the line in ninth place with significant issues, managing only one championship point.
“All the work has paid off, I am very happy. It was a tough race,” said Martín after his 19th sprint victory, which saw him draw level again with Márquez in the all-time rankings. Four weeks ago, Márquez had taken the lead in that statistic with his own sprint victory at the Sachsenring.
For Martín, it was his first victory since Le Mans in May, where he had completed the double by winning both the sprint and the Grand Prix. In the overall standings, Martín leads with 220 points, followed by Ogura (203), Bezzecchi (193), and Márquez (191). The British Grand Prix gets underway on Sunday at 14:00 CEST (Sky).
