Pedro Acosta picked up right where he left off before the summer break at Silverstone, securing fifth place at the British Grand Prix. The Spanish MotoGP rider from the KTM factory team, who had finished fourth at the Sachsenring at the end of the first half of the season, ended up just over three seconds off the podium. Team-mate Brad Binder crossed the line in eighth, marking his second-best result of the year. The South African had previously finished seventh in Thailand and Catalonia respectively.
Raúl Fernández took a commanding win in the next Aprilia one-two-three, with the 25-year-old Spaniard from the customer team Trackhouse pulling clear early in the race after pole-sitter Jorge Martín struggled at the start. Martín (Spain), the 2024 champion, dropped back initially but battled his way through to second place, with team-mate Marco Bezzecchi (Italy) rounding out the podium.
Fernández, who had signed a two-year contract extension through 2028 during the week, becomes the twelfth different winner in twelve years at the traditional circuit – since 2013, no rider has managed to win the race at Silverstone twice.
In the world championship standings, Martín leads after twelve of 22 races with 240 points, ahead of Bezzecchi (209) and Ai Ogura (Japan/Aprilia/203), who was forced to retire on Sunday. World champion Marc Márquez (Spain/Ducati) finished seventh in the main race and remains fourth with 200 points.
“This gives us a boost for the rest of the season. The race was fantastic,” said Martín, praising the “standout” performance of Fernández. After the four-week summer break, the season continues with the Aragon Grand Prix from 28 to 30 August.
