Pascal Wehrlein has become Formula E World Champion for the second time after a dramatic season finale. Despite a turbulent race, a crash, and an exhausting duel with a rival, the 31-year-old Porsche driver secured his second title in the electric racing series after 2024.
As the only German in Formula E history, Wehrlein has now claimed overall victory twice. The decisive factor was that his rivals, Mitch Evans (New Zealand/Jaguar) and Jake Dennis (Great Britain/Andretti), were unable to score the necessary points. Evans finished fourth, while Dennis scored no points — also because, like Wehrlein, he was involved in a crash near the end of the race, though both were able to continue.
Wehrlein was particularly incensed by the driving of Antonio Felix da Costa, Evans’ Jaguar teammate: at the halfway point of the race, Felix da Costa engaged in prolonged wheel-to-wheel battles with Wehrlein on the tight London street circuit, eventually forcing him off track and thereby gaining valuable positions for Evans and Dennis.
“He spent 20 laps trying to ruin my race and my championship,” Wehrlein fumed. “That was one of the most unsporting and unfair performances I have ever witnessed. I will not forget that.” In the end, however, joy overshadowed the anger: “We held our nerve under pressure and delivered.” Wehrlein had already built a decisive lead on Saturday when he dominated the first London race from pole position.
The Sigmaringen native began his title career as a Mercedes-backed junior driver, became the youngest DTM champion in 2015, made his Formula 1 debut in 2016 with Manor and Sauber, and switched to Formula E in 2019.
