More than one point was not on offer for Pedro Acosta at Mugello. In the MotoGP sprint race, the Spanish KTM factory rider finished ninth on Saturday, while his South African teammate Brad Binder missed out in eleventh. There is plenty of work to do for the motorcycle racing team ahead of the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday (14.00/Sky).
The sprint told several stories at once: Raúl Fernández won a short race in his MotoGP career for the first time and produced an Aprilia one-two together with Jorge Martín. Martín, who had set a top speed record of 368.6 km/h in practice, had to settle for second place. His teammate and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Italy) finished fourth, with Martín cutting the gap in the overall standings to twelve points (136:148).
Marc Márquez marked his return with a strong result: the world champion, who had suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal on his right foot in a crash three weeks ago in Le Mans and had to undergo a double operation, finished fifth on his Ducati. Mugello was his first race since his retirement in France. The Spaniard had missed the weekend in Barcelona.
His younger brother Àlex was absent in Italy following a heavy crash in Barcelona.
