Quansah is under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2030, but a major battle for his signature could develop as early as next summer. According to Sport Bild, Real Madrid are now monitoring the centre-back closely. Chelsea are also said to have made enquiries, while Arsenal reportedly went a step further and made a concrete approach during the previous transfer window.
Leverkusen move proves decisive for Quansah’s career
Quansah’s rise shows just how quickly circumstances can change. The Liverpool academy product joined the club at the age of five and made his senior breakthrough under Jürgen Klopp. He went on to make 58 competitive appearances for the first team before Liverpool allowed him to join Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for around €35 million.
In Germany, Quansah finally received the regular playing time he had been missing at Anfield. During his first season, he made 46 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals. He featured eleven times in the Champions League and was a regular starter in the Bundesliga. His pace, physical strength and, above all, quality in possession quickly made him a key figure for Leverkusen.
The move also paid off at international level. Quansah made his senior England debut in November 2025 before being named in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad and making several appearances at the tournament. He is now used not only at centre-back, but also on the right side of a back four. In the Nations League meeting with Spain, he was even preferred to Trent Alexander-Arnold in that role. Most recently, he was rested against the Czech Republic as part of his workload management.
Real Madrid monitoring Quansah closely
Quansah’s progress has inevitably attracted interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid’s interest currently appears particularly significant. According to Sport Bild, the Spanish giants have been tracking the England international closely.
That interest also fits into Madrid’s medium- and long-term planning in central defence. Real are expected to look for reinforcements in that area by next summer at the latest.
There has not yet been a formal offer, however. Quansah is understood to be one of several names on Real Madrid’s shortlist. His versatility is another attractive factor: the 1.90-metre right-footer can play centrally or as a more defensively minded right-back.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are also reported to have requested information on the defender.
Arsenal have already made their move
Arsenal have gone further than the other suitors so far. David Ornstein reported in August that the Gunners had identified Quansah as a potential defensive reinforcement. Leverkusen, however, had no intention of selling, while Quansah was believed to be open in principle to a move to London.
More recent reports claim Arsenal even submitted an offer of around €65 million during the summer. Leverkusen turned it down. The German club were in a strong negotiating position: Quansah still has four years remaining on his contract, so there is no particular pressure to sell.
Liverpool reportedly hold another buy-back option
Liverpool’s position is especially intriguing. When Quansah moved to Leverkusen, the Reds negotiated buy-back rights into the deal. One option for the summer of 2026 was not activated and has now expired, something previously reported by both The Athletic and The Guardian.
According to the latest information from Sport Bild, however, another clause exists for the summer of 2027. Liverpool could reportedly bring Quansah back to Anfield for around €70 million if they act by June 15.
The report even suggests that Liverpool exercising that option is a realistic possibility. Whether Quansah would then remain at Anfield is another matter. An immediate resale for a higher fee is also being discussed as one possible scenario.
For Leverkusen, the situation is therefore comfortable but potentially temporary. Quansah is a clear first-team regular, is tied to the club on a long-term contract and could generate a huge profit if he is eventually sold. Real Madrid are watching closely, Chelsea have made enquiries, Arsenal have already tried to sign him – and Liverpool may still hold the strongest card of all.
By the summer of 2027 at the latest, Quansah could become one of the most fascinating names on the European transfer market.
